About the category
The Text category is a workspace for anyone who works with words: writers, editors, translators, SEO specialists, students, and developers. Count words and characters, switch between cases, clean up duplicates, sort lists, convert between formats, and prepare text for URLs, posts, and APIs.
How to choose a tool
1
If you need to hit a word or character limit
Use the Word Counter. It shows words, characters, sentences, and reading time, updated live as you type.
2
If you need to convert text to a different case
Use the Case Converter. It supports UPPER, lower, Title, Sentence, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE, and slugify.
3
If you're preparing a URL slug
Use the Case Converter's slugify mode. It transliterates Cyrillic, strips special characters, and joins words with hyphens.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the word counter count words? v
It splits text on any whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines) and counts non-empty segments. This matches the counting method used by Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
Does the word counter work with non-English text? v
Yes for languages that separate words with spaces (most European languages, Russian, Arabic). For Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, character count is a more useful metric than word count.
What is slugify and when do I need it? v
Slugify converts text into a URL-friendly string: lowercase, hyphens instead of spaces, no special characters. Useful for blog post URLs, file names, and IDs.
Can I convert emoji or special characters? v
The Word Counter counts them. The Case Converter's developer modes (camelCase, snake_case) will strip them because they're not valid identifier characters.
Does the tool support batch processing? v
Currently no - each tool processes one block of text at a time. For batch operations, use a script or command-line tool like sed.
Is my text saved anywhere? v
No. Text processing happens entirely in your browser. Your draft, essay, or code never leaves your device.
