About this tool
The Password Generator is a free online tool that creates strong, cryptographically secure random passwords in your browser. Instead of inventing a password yourself, you pick the length and character types, and the tool generates a password using your browser's cryptographic random number generator.
How it works
1
Choose your length
Drag the slider from 4 to 64 characters. 16 characters is a good default; 20+ for critical accounts.
2
Select character types
Toggle uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols. Optionally exclude visually similar characters.
3
Generate and copy
Click Generate Password. The password appears instantly with a one-click copy button.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this password generator safe to use? v
Yes. Generation runs entirely in your browser - no password is ever sent to a server. Randomness comes from crypto.getRandomValues().
How long should my password be? v
For most accounts: 16 characters. For email, banking, and password managers: 20+ characters.
Should I use symbols in my password? v
Symbols add entropy and are generally good. But length matters more.
What does 'exclude similar characters' do? v
It removes visually ambiguous characters - i, l, 1, 0, O, o - from the pool.
Should I use a password manager? v
Yes, strongly. Nobody can remember 30 unique 16-character passwords. Use Bitwarden, 1Password, or KeePass.
Is it free? Do I need an account? v
Completely free, no account, no email, no tracking.
